One thing that is very fairy-like and magic about being at The Buttery is drinks appear without me having to order them. I have been coming here since the place first opened wide as a butterfly. I am friendly with all the creatures of this facility. They know me by name and I know them by their function–cook, barista, etc. One of them, I am told, is called “Courtney.” Alyssa would know. She’s more of a names person.
Routine is the secret to success. I have my routine and more than one, actually, now that I think about it. Because I have my writing routine and, obviously, my workout routine. I say obviously because–come on, guys, have you seen me? Anyway, I have my guitar playing routine and I have my business routine and my marketing routine and my email routine and my family routine and my walking routine and my showering routine and my this, that and the other thing, routine. Seems I would know a thing or two about routines!
So my advice for getting into one (that is, a routine–because what the heck else would we be talking about?) is not to base it around time but around energy. Put whatever is toughest around where you have the most in you. I have the energy for creative work (writing) in the morning. I have the energy for working out around 11. I have the energy for logistical business work between 12 – 2. After that, guitar. Then, family time. Finally, it’s time to read.
Everybody has their own unique and precious, little energy cycle. So you might find your time for being creative is at night. That’s fine. Be creative at night! And you might find your time for working out is first thing, as soon as you wake up. Which, there is nothing wrong that that. Just don’t forget to brush your teeth, is all. Hygiene is important.
PS – Guys, my Inner Circle. Please. How many times do I have mention?
