The goblet is where you pull yourself between your legs and have a sit. This is a move every person should know of and be able to do and especially before you back squat or front squat. The goblet squat teaches you what your hips do and what the mechanics of squatting are. It is a very good exercise and builds muscle in the legs.
Another thing is the goblet squat is a learner’s tool and which that’s because the risk of getting hurt with the goblet squat is far lower than with the back squat or front squat. This is good because you want people to learn with the progression that has the least amount of risk attached to it, or in other words the greatest margin of error. That way if they don’t do it all the way right they aren’t also going to hurt themselves, usually.
OK so for the goblet squat, you want to be sure that…
- Heels are planted
- Back is flat
- Tailbone is neutral
- Elbows are inside (not on top) of the knees
- Breathing matches the movements (in on way down, out on way up)
The rest I’ll cover in the video. Workout starts at about 16:00.
