During this episode I was jumping up and down shouting “All Along The Watchtower!” at my poor little MP3 player, so many thanks for including that. For info, Hendrix’s first big hit, “Hey Joe” was also a cover.
Definitely in the ‘better than the original’ camp is Aretha Franklin’s cover of “Respect” by Otis Redding. Again, I believe he acknowledged this himself.
BTW, the Manfred Mann version of “Blinded by the Light” is itself a cover – that’s a Springsteen song.
Many thanks for all the content you put out, especially during lockdown – you (and Dan John) have become regular fixtures of my daily listening.
Cheers

“Blinded by the light” written and first recorded by Bruce Springsteen, not Manford Mann. They recorded Dylan songs in the 60s and someone told run than Springsteen was the new Dylan. There cover was a huge hit for them
