What a coincidence. I was reading your book and going over the section where you discuss your personal battle with anxiety and then I came across this podcast. I’ve dealt with anxiety before but never given it much thought. I used to get bad panic attacks and while they’ve subsided, they still flare up. I feel as if I have some good tools now for dealing with it. I’ve always taken a flight approach so I like this idea of radical acceptance when you experience anxiety. I don’t want to rely on medication so I like float, accept, and approach situations that make me anxious. It reminds me of your lessons on resistance training. Thanks for the pirate map Pat!

One of my classmates suffers from anxiety so I am going to share this podcast. I’d like to know how many people suffer anxiety, what the percentage is that are medicated, and how many could use alternatives to medication. Anyone have any statistics on this?

While I don’t follow all of C.S. Lewis’ line of reasoning, I think his trilemma is one of his strongest arguments. How can you look at the life of Jesus Christ and His teachings and not believe He’s either God incarnate, a demon, or a false prophet (with a good chance of being insane?) I’ve seen Lewis’ arguments in several apologetic books and I couldn’t agree more that it’s one of the most valid claims for following Christ. Sadly, however, people do try and separate Jesus Christ from His divine nature. Look at the Jeffersonian “Bible” which tries to separate Jesus’ teachings from His status as the Son of God.

I’ve heard people make the argument that Christianity incorporated teachings from other religions including Buddhism. How do you refute people who claim that the Christ story of the virgin birth and resurrection was appropriated by earlier faiths such as Zoroastrianism? Some of the claims seem to fall into pseudohistory, but I hear more and more people claiming Christianity “ripped off” earlier (and obscure) faiths. Keep in mind I’m not talking about Christianity’s foundation being Judaic Law, but the claim it appropriated other faiths.

Pat I’m going on vacation in 9 weeks and want to lose 10 pounds. Is that a realistic goal if I start walking 3x week and use meal replacement shakes to cut back on bad meal choices? What would you or anyone else say?
